The first steering committee meeting

And so it begins.
A crack(ed) team of teachers met last week (Thursday, 11/10) to begin the NEASC self study. We started with introductions: Sharon Flescher (veteran), library; Sabin Olson (veteran), social studies; Angela Bartlett (co-chair), CTE; Suzanne Winters (veteran), CTE; Alan Tefft , science; James Gaj, social studies; and Rob Greene (co-chair), English.

We had some explaining to do, mostly about why we wanted to be on the committee, then we ran down the rough timeline of the study.
  • November 2016: Teacher standards-committee-preference surveys and assignments.
  • December 2016: Standards committees meet during faculty meeting
  • January 2017: NEASC bigwig comes to meet us during the early-release day. Also, survey of staff, students, and parents begins.
  • Work, work, work
  • December 2017ish; Self-study ends
  • March 2018: NEAC visits
Finally, we all received nifty binders of information and picked which standards committees we wanted to liaise to.
  • Core Values, Beliefs, and Learning Expectations -- Sabin
  • Curriculum -- Suzanne
  • Instruction -- James
  • Assessment of and for Student Learning -- Alan
  • School Culture and Leadership -- Angela
  • School Resources for Learning -- Sharon
  • Community Resources for Learning -- Nichole
The steering committee will not be meeting regularly until things heat up a bit. Until then, they’ll be communicating via the Google Docs and email.
